Why does God make innocent people pay for the sins of others? Why do entire families die when the father sins (Joshua 7)? Why do 70,000 people die when the king sins (2 Samuel 24)? Why does God kill off one of His priests for simply touching a holy thing (2 Samuel 6:6-7) and destroy entire cities by fire (Genesis 19:24)? Why does God kill everyone off in a worldwide flood? (Genesis 6)?
Why does God seem to change His mind? Why does He regret that He has made humans, so that He decides to destroy all of the people in the world with a flood (Genesis 6:6-7)? Why does God decide to destroy the nation that He has only recently made such a huge effort to save (Numbers 14:11-12)? How could a God outside of time, who sees all of the past, present, and future, have regrets?
Does God cause bad things to happen or does God allow bad things to happen?
Why does God allow sin to spread so far that He must resort to catastrophe?
Why does God harden Pharaoh’s heart? Wouldn’t it make more sense for Him to soften it instead? Why doesn’t God make a greater effort to save those whom He has condemned (humanity before the flood, for example)?
