Alleghenys Stuck in the Mud (we hope)?

Kind of an odd day in the EFL.

.
Pittsburgh: W, 5 – 4. (.250, .341, .528; 14.3 ip, 5 er) Kurt Suzuki homered twice to win the game. It seems this year that every team to occupy first place bogs down.  No one has run away from the pack. Let’s hope this underwhelming result is a sign that even the Alleghenys will not shred our pennant race.
.
Haviland: “L”, 4 – 3. (.133, .350, .133; 10.3 ip, 3 er).  That was only 15 AB’s worth of crummy hitting, so the underlying batting stats for the month provided most of the scoring for this equally underwhelming outcome.
.
Cottage: W, 3 – 0. (.191, .291, .234; 12.3 ip, 1 er).  Outstanding pitching, enough to give the Cheese a nudge forward toward the Alleghenys despite the weak hitting.
.
Flint Hill: W, 5 – 1. (.275, .383, .373; 20.7 ip, 7 er). The Tornados, on the other hand,  got 51 decent ABs and tons of pitching. Maybe they can push themselves back into the scrum atop the league… if they trade for Tyler Skaggs.
.
Portland: L, 4 – 6. (.235, .333, .353;  10 ip, 6 er). Jose Berrios surrendered 4 earned runs in 4 ip to compound the problems from the lackluster hitting.
.
Kaline: “W”, 3 – 5. (.207, .281, .379; 16.3 ip 8 er.) That weak batting line is compounded by its volume: 58 ABs  (64 PAs). On the bright side: Yoenis Cespedes hit for the cycle
.
Peshastin: L, 5 – 13. (.184, .286, .531; 6 ip, 10 er).  James Taillon triple chulked (3 ip, 9 er) to doom the Pears.
.
Old Detroit:  W, 13 – 4. (.441, .429, .882; 6 ip, 2 er). Christian Yelich led the booming Wolverine offense with two doubles and a homer in four at bats.
.
Canberra: W, 5 – 3.  (.316, .409, .474;   7.7 ip, 2 er) . Only 19 ABs yesterday – what an odd day, with some teams fielding only half an offense and others over 50 ABs.  Alas that Taijuan Walker’s home run doesn’t help the Kangaroos.
.
DC: L, 6 – 9. (.324, 400, .500; 4.3 ip, 5 er). Mike Clevinger uncharacteristically stumbled  on the mound, ruining DC’s latest Edgar Martinez Day.
