League Updates

The passengers aren’t screaming. Yet.

The three youngest turks are back atop our league again.  Is this any wiser than giving the keys to the bus to  the 16-year olds?  It makes me nervous.  Mostly because they may never give the keys back.

The M’s lost (gruesomely) for the second game in a row Sunday, which launched the Astros back into first place, which resolved replacement player issues for the Dragons, which launched the Dragons out of our tight and merry little pack at the back of the bus… sigh.  The same thing also seems to have magnified the Drive’s separation from the front pack. In fact, the Drive, Pears, Cheese and Dragons now form a solid tier, a wide belt of just-under-.500 mediocrity across the league’s bulging waistline.

You have the top three, all within a scintillating 0.4 games of the lead.

You have Pittsburgh straggling, not within a game of anyone, thus not in any tier.

You have the broad belt across the middle.

And you have the party in the back seats, a little less jolly without the Dragons, but otherwise still cozy, 4 teams within 0.6 of each other.

Go Mariners!  Except they only play once more this month… so also, boo Astros!

Outstanding individual performances of the day Sunday:
.
Batters:  Ozzie Albies , Peshastin Pears (3 for 5 with two homers, 2.400 OPS). Raised his season OPS to .842 over 124 plate appearances.
.
Pitchers:  Zach Eflin, Peshastin Pears (9 ip, 1 er, 7 h, 3 so, 0 walks, 1.00 ERA). Lowered his season ERA to 3.34 over 35 innings.
(The Pears rode their stars to a crucial 0.9 – game gain on the Cheese.  Oh, and a 1.1 – game gain on the Kangaroos.)
Honorable Mention:  Cody Bellinger, with his 14th homer of the season. Which I actually predicted!  On Saturday… to happen Saturday.  Thanks so much, Cody, for being one day late and ruining my prophetic credentials.
.
I apologize for the sparse update today. Duties call.
