More More Memoriam

(No. Derek Dietrich didn’t die. He just killed.)

Ralph Beebe died on Memorial Day.  I believe he was at least a bit of a baseball fan, part of his overall fandom of various sports.  He came to Bruin basketball games until recently, and, as most of you probably know, was a football player and later coach for the Bruins back in the 1950’s. I don’t have any baseball stories involving Ralph, just my personal appreciation for him as one of my professors, and later one of my colleagues.  I am one of the many, many people who will miss him.

Portland: “L”, 7 – 6. (42 PA, .229, .357, .543;  1 ip, 2 er, 18.00 ERA)
Flint Hill: W, 12 – 6. (40 PA, .324, .375, .919;  1.7 ip, 0 er, 0.00 ERA) Derek Dietrich hit three home runs in 4 AB. His OPS for the season is up to 1.085, 1.275 for May.  I didn’t see this coming.  I don’t think the Tornados did, either — how could they?  It’s just luck, right?
Old Detroit:  “L”, 4 – 3. (55 PA, .306, .382, .449;  7.7 ip, 4 er, 4.70 ERA).
Canberra: W, 8 – 7. (27 PA, .375, .407, .917; 9.3 ip, 7 er, 6.75 ERA.)
Peshastin: L, 6 – 9. (44 PA, .229, .364, .371; 2 ip, 2 er, 9.00 ERA).
Pittsburgh: “W”, 6 – 8. (41 PA, .300, .317, .400;  13 ip, 8 er, 5.54 ERA).  Allegheny batters struck out 13 times, got 12 hits, and walked once. Maybe some more walking would be in order?
Kaline: “W”, 3 – 6.  (43 PA, .237, .326, .421; 14 ip, 8 er, 5.14 ERA).
Haviland: L, 6 – 10.  (36 PA, .233, .361, .567; 1 ip, 3 er, 27 ERA).  Brandon Brennan bombed, along with the rest of the Mariners pitching staff.
Cottage: L, 5 4 – 9.  28 PA, .280, .357, .320; 1 ip, 1 er, 9.00 ERA).   Scott Alexander faced one batter and served up a home run. Brad Hand got three strikeouts, walked one and surrendered a hit without giving up another run.
