League Updates

A Wilting Rose By Any Other Name is Still…

In first place. Boo.
I’ve been in trainings all day, and so I don’t have much to add up here, but will add a little below. However, there is one weird thing you should know about. For some reason BP left out the Arizona/Colorado game from its update. That may not make a huge difference below, and then again, it might if you had players in the game. Just an FYI – there isn’t anything we can do about it!

Portland: DNP, 3-0 (25 PA, .136, .240, .318; 5 ip, 2 er, 3.60 era) The Rosebuds are reeling. Over the past week they have received news that two of their star players – Tatis and Sale – are sidelined for the remainder of the year. This has sent shockwaves through the clubhouse, and it is showing up in the box score. These guys aren’t machines, they have feelings, you know. Tommy Pham was the only hitter to show some kind of resiliency, hitting a HR. The rest of the league is torn between feeling badly for the injuries, but they also see a light emerging and thus are perhaps responding in turn. Let’s see how…
Flint Hill: W 1, L -1, 1-(-6) (22 PA, .300, .364, .550; 6 ip, 1 er, 1.80 era) Wow! The Tornadoes are responding – not only to the Rosebuds misfortune but also to the commissioner’s insult yesterday. Zac Gallen pitched a gem (we have had so few of those this month) and helped the Tornadoes gain almost a whole game on Portland.
Old Detroit: DNP, -2-(-3) (23 PA, .190, .261, .381; 4 ip, 2 er, 2.20 era) The Wolverines took a loss yesterday despite outscoring their opponents by 4 runs. So they took today off in protest to such a silly computational anomaly. Except Trea Turner (HR) and Eric Lauer (all the pitching) did show up in protest of their protesting teammates.
Pittsburgh: L, 6-8 (6 PA, .000, .167, .000; no pitching) Ok, I spoke too soon. It was the Alleghanys who took the day off! Surplus ABs and Replacement IPs are how he had any numbers to show for the day.
Peshastin: DNP, 3-0 (20 PA, .471, .550, .765; 1 ip, 1 er, 9.00 era) I have no idea what the Bougie Bijou did to spark a fire under his team, but his August stats have been his best all season. Hitting and pitching combined have been the Pears’ calling card this month, where most of us have had one or the other.
Haviland: L, 4-7 (7 PA, .000, .286, .000; 1 ip, 0 er, 0.00 era) Apparently the Dragons went the way of the Alleghanys, which one would think is a dangerous combination (dragons and water do not usually mix), and what do you know? It didn’t help the Dragons any more than it helped Pittsburgh.
Kaline: L, 2-4 (22 PA, .048, .091, .095; 1 ip, 0 er) Wow, that batting line is brutal. It is 1 hit and 1 walk in 23 ABs, which is a lot of walking back to the dugout.
Canberra: DNP, 1-4 (3 PA, .000, .000, .000; 6 ip, 7 er, .10.50 era) Well, at least it was only a few PAs?
Bellingham: W, 6-2 (6 PA, .750, .833, .750; 7.7 ip, 0 er, 0.00 era) Look at that pitching line! The envy of everyone except perhaps the Pears. And Hunter Pence showed the league how to get maximum value out of a few PAs.
Cottage: W, 7-6 (18 PA, .357, .471, .714; 4 ip, 3 er, 6.75 era) A great offensive day for the Cheese, led my Mejia and Ohtani – the vowel-y boys (get it? I know, it’s not good).
Brookland: “W,” 3-5 (4 PA, .250, .250, .250; 3 ip, 0 er) Another lean line in terms of PAs, but they were able to fool their opponent into giving them a win even though they scored fewer runs! Probably had to do with the good, though small, amount of IPs they got.
DC: DNP, 2-5 (15 PA, .231, .333, .462; 2 ip, 6 er, 27.00 era) Austin Nola led the way for the Balk batters, but Trevor Williams gave all of it (and some more) back, resulting in a few runs lost, but don’t worry! You didn’t lose.
