Blame Game…

Last night Portland Timbers played the Seattle Sounders in a Cascadia Cup match. There is much vitriol between these two clubs, some of it moving beyond the expected competitive fire that comes with regional rivalries. But last night was different. Instead of an incredibly loud and raucous stadium environment, which is usually the case at Timbers game (the environment is often described as the only American stadium that sounds like a European stadium during a soccer match), the Timbers and Sounders fans joined together to hold a silent protest against the recent MLS decision to censor the Iron Fist logo from all signage. You can read more about it here if you so desire.
While this is an interesting story, what was more interesting to me was that the Timbers owner, Merritt Paulson, placed part of the blame for the Timbers 2-1 loss to their rivals on the silent protest from the fans. Think about that – the owner of one of the most popular MLS franchises blamed the fans for his team’s loss (you can find more info about that on Twitter if you so desire).
Yesterday the OD owner blamed Flint Hill’s management for their lackluster day, writing: “Although my team’s bad day today might be attributable to some sort of embarrassment on the part of my young players, who read Jamie’s post and suddenly thought maybe they shouldn’t be trying to pass anyone in the standings.”
I read comments from many Sounders fans who were amused that the owner of the Timbers would blame the fans for the Timbers loss, and like Sounders fans, I am amused that Ron would suggest I am to blame for his loss yesterday. Well, today we have a chance to see if I am truly to blame for the Wolverines being Wolves or Woes, because yesterday I said nothing about them being sneaky. So, let’s check in to see how everyone did…

I believe with Dave’s new system you are all getting stats, which is helpful in this case because I am off to a birthday party for my son. But it appears that Ron’s blame game might have been misplaced, perhaps. We’ll have to see after a few days whose theory is correct…
PS: Ron, is this good in terms of helping out ratings? If no one posts a comments should you and I stage a silent protest?
