A Stroll Along the Arno

A lone kayaker moves swiftly down the river. We couldn't help envying his freedom of movement as we were crushed among the throngs on the bridge.

Here along the river you get a sense of the range of architecture styles commonly seen in Florence.

This guy stands at the entrance to the bridge looking with disapproval on all of the tourists who enter Florence. Or maybe I was just taking it too personally.

On our first day in Florence I went out to the river just before sunset and found it very still, perfect for reflections.

I love the reflections of the arches of the bridge. The tower in the background is the Palazzo Vecchio, the old seat of government of the Florentine republic, and later (for a time) the palace of the ruling Medici family.

I had a few minutes before breakfast on Saturday morning to go see if I could find some morning light along the river.
