Dick and David by House on Hornby

This was the first house our family lived in.

When Mom and Dad were first married they lived in an apartment in San Dimas – a small town not far from Claremont, where Dad went to college.

For raising children, however, they wanted a house, and they bought their first one in Whittier, where Dad’s parents lived. This picture of me in my dad’s arms was taken in front of that house. Its address was 9118 Hornby Street.

Hornby Street was south of Whittier Blvd, out in East Whittier, a part of town that was newer than “Uptown Whittier” where my grandparents lived. We lived there until I was five years old, in 1957. By then my parents had three kids, and knew that they needed a bigger place.
