Back in the day, cars used to have running boards. The running board was a place to stand on the side of a car, and it ran from the front wheel to the back wheel on both sides.

Dick is standing on the running board of this car in this photo. He looks like he’s about 2 or 3 years old, so that means that this photo was taken in 1930 or 1931.

This is a Buick – we were always a Buick family – and it belonged to Tirzah and Frank. In the scrapbooks it is known as “The Big Buick.”
