There are 23 images here, published from 1954 through 1976. Another reason to click through to the full-size version is to see her name in print: “design by Mary Frances Martin.” It doesn’t always appear, and sometimes it’s very small, but it’s fun to look for.

The process never varied; Nan Comstock, who was the editor of McCall’s craft publications for all of those years, would send Annie a free copy of the publication that her work appeared in, and a stiff, formal letter to tell her where it appears in the magazine. Three of those letters are reproduced below.

In 1955, McCall’s published a photo gallery of all of their craft contributors, with a short bio for each one. Annie’s photo and bio are shown at right. You can see what Annie thought of this by looking at her note on Nan’s letter, near the bottom of this page.
