Bert’s Car Business

During his high school years, Bert spent his time buying, fixing up, and reselling old cars. On this page are pictures of these classics.

On the back of this photo is written:
Bought Dec 1944 $250   Sold Jan 1946 $279 (OPA ceiling)

I’ve never heard that Bert was a cigar smoker, so I assume that this pose was just for dramatic effect.

Bought Jan 1946 for $490
Sold Dec 1947 for $650

Bert fell in love with cars as a young boy, and his fascination with them led him to start a business when he got into high school. He loved buying old “classic” cars, fixing them up, and reselling them. (Click on any photo to enlarge it.)

This montage of several car-related videos was shot partly at the Barcus ranch and partly at the Martin home in Pomona. We see Doree on the back of the wagon, and driving a tractor! We see Bert working on his cars and offering a test drive to a friend.

This photo is not written on, but the car looks like a classic 1920s roadster.

Looks like a Ford Model A. The note on the back says
Bought 1943 (14 yrs old) for $20
Sold 1944 for $40

The note on the back says “Bought Dec. 1946 for $1400.00 (ouch!).” I hope he was able to sell it!
