Siblings in the ’60s

On this page are pictures of the four of us kids in various settings together during the years 1960-64.

As you can see on this and other pages, the two sisters (Peggy and Sue) had a lot of pictures taken together. This is perhaps the most famous of them, showing the girls in matching dresses made by Annie, our grandmother. She also made the purses and gloves. The picture was taken in the driveway at our house on Davista Dr. in Whittier.

For our birthdays we kids sometimes had the opportunity to sleep over at Grandma and Grandad’s the night before, and celebrate birthday breakfast with them. On this particular year the tradition was reversed; it was Grandma’s birthday, August 28, and Peggy and I were invited to spend the night before at our grandparents’ house so that we could celebrate her with a birthday breakfast. That was a risky offer, because Peggy and I rarely got along, even when we were with our grandparents. But it seems to be all right for this picture. It was 1963, the year that Grandad passed away in October, so I am sure that he was not well that morning. But he got up and took this picture!

This photo was taken in a park in Monterey, California, during one of our family trips to Carmel, Monterey, and the Bay Area. We loved this park and Mom and Dad brought us here each time we visited the area.

Growing up in L.A. County, snow was a rare and wonderful thing. We never got it in Whittier, but our parents took us to snow every year, in the nearby mountains, so that we could play. Here’s a photo of Peggy and Sue learning about snowballs.
