Peggy took this picture during her trip to Hawaii with Annie and Grandpa in 1973. Normally we grandchildren weren’t included in their travels, but this trip was a high school graduation gift to Peggy.

You can see Annie and Grandpa in the shade of their patio outside their mobile home near Desert Hot Springs, California. They always spent part of the winter and spring out there so they could visit the desert wildflowers. Annie’s Easter bunnies decorate the home.

I’m not sure who or what this is, but Grandpa seems to have struck up a friendship with him.

This alpaca encountered Grandpa on the sidewalk in Lima, Peru, in 1972.

This photo was taken at Grandpa’s birthday celebration at our house in 1972.

Annie and Grandpa traveled quite a bit in the early 70s. Pictures on this page show them in South America, Hawaii, and San Francisco. During this time they moved from their home in Costa Mesa to a new mobile home park in Westminster, California – not very far away. The move was necessitated by the construction of a new freeway that went right through the place where their old home was. They also kept a second mobile home out in Desert Hot Springs where they would go in the springtime.

Mary loved animals of all types. Out at Desert Hot Springs she managed to befriend this roadrunner and get him to actually come into the house for food. I remember her telling me about it – she was so proud of the accomplishment!

Annie made friends with this old sea captain at the wharf in San Francisco in 1971.

Annie did not like having her picture taken, but she was willing to pose with animals or flowers because she loved them so much. This 1972 photo shows her holding Chilean bellflowers.

Here is a photo from Annie’s birthday in 1972.

This is a photo taken during the installation of the Martin’s new home in Westminster, in 1973.

They visited Iguassu Falls in South America in 1972. Apparently it was important for each of them to get as close to the edge as possible!

This is Annie’s sister, Judy McQuiston, shown with her granddaughter (and our cousin) Meg Reilly.
