Not the British Open

The boys aren’t back yet from visiting one of Melissa’s friends.  Jordan Spieth is on TV one shot back at the British Open — make that two back as Leishman birdies a hole.

The main thing I’m noticing is that our leaderboard isn’t nearly as volatile as the one they’ve got at St. Andrews. We need a few eagles and missed short puts to generate some drama.

Old Detroit: W 1 , L 1;  12 – 6.   .297, .360, .505; 22.3 ip, 11 er.

Haviland:  W, 4 – 0.  .282, .317, .487;  30 ip, 5 er.  Garrett Richards’ 2-hit complete game shutout carried the Dragons.

Cottage:  W 2, L 0; 10 – 7.  264, .316, .385;  17 ip, 6 er.  Dan Haren’s 6 ip, 5 er held the Cheese back a little, but Jonathan Schoop was the unlikely star going 4 for 8 with a double and a walk.

Peshastin: W 1,  L 2; 13 – 10. .259,  .312, .459;  17.7 ip 5 er.   So the Pears squeeze one win out of three games while outscoring their foes.  Compare this with what the Tornados did.

Flint Hill: W 2, L 0; 9 – 9.  304, .368, .348;  12 ip, 8 er.  How did you do that? Win two while outscoring your foes by a whopping 0.2.  That’s precision game management!

Pittsburgh: W 0, L 2; 5 – 11. .179, .281, .268;  22 ip, 12 er.  Cole Hamels had a bad day (3 ip, 5 er) to undermine the Alleghenys.  I wonder if they are eager to see Hamels get traded.

Kaline: W (-1), L 2; 2 – 8.  214, .267, .243;  11.7 ip, 8 er.  Tommy Milone had a bad day, too — 2.7 ip,  5 er.

Canberra:  W 1, L 2; 10 – 16. .279, 366, .459;  10.3 ip, 3 er. .What pitchers they had did well, but 10 innings isn’t enough for three games.  On the other hand — Jake Smolinski’s 4 for 6 with 2 homers comes very timely for the ‘Roos… and for himself. (Vaguely like Jordan Spieth’s long birdie on 16 to tie for the lead.)

Portland: W 1, L 2; 13 – 14.  .262, .318, .426;  20.3 ip, 9 er. Doug Fister’s 5 ip, 4 er left the Rosebuds short — or maybe just off to the right like Spieth’s par put on 17.  Kole Calhoun’s 3 for 3 with two homers and a walk almost made up for it.
