League Updates

Apollo Gee

First, I need to apologize for yesterday’s post.  The Bible clearly states that if you speak in tongues you need to provide translation for the benefit of the ungifted.  So here’s yesterday’s title:

“Purse Pecked Tiff?” “Knoweth Hang Queue. Aisle Beef High In.”

And here’s the translation:

“Purr Specked If?” “Nothing Cue. All-beef Eyein’ “

Sewn ow Ike and dune in tire erupt eighty oozing distal off-riding.

Orem a bee knot. (Better: Orem a bean ought.)

Second, a program note: I’ll be on the road tomorrow, going to Seattle to hopefully see Felix pitch while sending good vibes Ryan’s way for Day 2 of his bar exam. Then on Thursday morning we go collect what’s left of Ryan and see if we can help him recover.  So there may not be an update for a couple of days.

Actually, I’m supposed to have a meeting here in a couple of minutes, so I won’t be able to do a long-winded update, which is a blessing since it’d likely just be even more moaning about the fading Woeverines.

Haviland:  DNP, 0 – (-1).  .174, .375, .391; 15. 3 ip, 7 er.  8 walks in 31 plate appearances. Three by Goldschmidt, including the 10th-inning clunker that doomed the Mariners. Two by Lamb, plus the sacrifice fly that scored Goldschmidt, also dooming the Mariners.

Old Detroit:  “W”, 2 – 4.  .107, .138,  .321. No pitching. They were ashamed to be seen with these hitters. Kinda like a seventh grader trying to convince his friends he doesn’t have parents.

Pittsburgh:  W, 4 – 2.  .214, .313, .286;  9 ip, 2 er.  And Iwakuma goes tonight, so the A’s should be able to shave a little more off the Dragons’ lead.

Peshastin: DNP, 1 – (-5).  .217, .321, .391;  9.7 ip, 0 er.  Wow. Welington Castillo hit another homer.  The Pears are reputed to be so nice, but it’s all a sham.  They’re rubbing so many people’s faces in their messes Castillo’s redemption and transformation into an offensive machine — the Cubs, the Mariners, the Woeverines…

Cottage: W, 6 – 3.  .333, .346,.542;  2ip, 0 er.  Anthony Rizzo, when asked why he’s gone nearly 0 for July, complained about the heat, the humidity, the sun in his eyes, the brutal afternoon games, the travel, the umpires, Donald Trump, Clinton’s emails, Chinese and Russian aggression, and the brevity of New Horizon’s Pluto fly-by.  I said “Of course, it’s all too much to bear. Don’t you bat right after Kris Bryant? He went 2 for 5 with a homer yesterday.” Rizzo thought about that for a minute, then said “Yeah, that too — he soaks up all the hits.”

Flint Hill:  L, 1 – 2.  .097, .200, .226; 7.7 ip, 2 er.  Tornado hitters betrayed Robbie Ray, ruining his good outing with 3 for 31 “hitting.”

Kaline:  DNP, 0 – 1.   .211, .268, .368;  0.3 ip, 1 er.  Carson Smith threw 0.3 innings of no-hit baseball, yet still managed to serve up the winning run for the Diamondbacks. He walked two, hit a batter, flung a wild pitch, and surrendered a just-deep-enough sacrifice fly to provide all the raw materials the D-backs needed to finish off the Ms.  A no-hit triple chulk.

Canberra: DNP, 3 – (-4).  .450, .522, .500;  15 ip, 7 er.  Typically awesome Kangaroo bopping, only more so this time, even without Bryce Harper.   Fair pitching overall, which in the Canberra context is wonderful pitching.

Portland: W 1, L (-1); 1 – (-1).  .316, .364, .421;  13.3 ip, 7 er. Like the Kangaroos, only a little less so.
