New Draft Order

Here is the new draft order, with the Balk in the first spot.  For the Rule 5 and Free Agent draft, we only use the 10 EFL teams. For the Rookie, we use computers for the listed MLB teams. 10 MLB teams are not represented here because we want to draft in the same 30 team environment MLB teams enjoy.

By the way, the D.C. Balk logo is the featured photo on this post. If he manages like he designs logos, we’re in trouble.

D.C. Balk 1
Philadelphia Phillies 2
Portland Rosebuds 3
Atlanta Braves 4
Colorado Rockies 5
Oakland A’s 6
Kaline Drive 7
Miami Marlins 8
Detroit Tigers 9
Seattle Mariners 10
Canberra Kangaroos 11
Boston Red Sox 12
Arizona Diamondbacks 13
Tampa Bay Rays 14
Cleveland Indians 15
Cottage Cheese 16
Minnesota Twins 17
San Francisco Giants 18
Peshastin Pears 19
Los Angeles Angels 20
New York Yankees 21
Texas Rangers 22
Los Angeles Dodgers 23
Toronto Blue Jays 24
Flint Hill Tornadoes 25
Kansas City Royals 26
Pittsburgh Pirates 27
Old Detroit Wolverines 28
Pittsburgh Alleghenys 29
Haviland Dragons 30

The Drive, Cheese, and Pears each slipped on notch in the draft order.

I use a formula to compute how to translate our 40 teams to a 30-team draft. The first pick and the last calculate out to exactly a whole number. All the others calculate to some decimal value between whole numbers. All the EFL teams except one got the decimal value closest to their new draft position.  Since we were changing from a 39-team league to a 40-team league, some teams who used to have decimal values less than 0.5 more than a whole number, ended up with decimal values over 0.5 more — so closer to the higher number.

The one exception is the Wolverines.  They rounded up to 29.  But since we can’t have two 29th picks, they got to move up to the 28th pick.

So, take heart, Rosebuds. Unless the Balk are smarter than the computer, you should have the options as you did before, since you’re still drafting 3rd.

    • The first round is going to be brutal – a lot of players came up early and thus generated lots of at-bats/innings pitched, which is the single most influential stat in the managers.
