Cheesy New Year’s Resolutions for EFL 2017

  1. I will NOT lose my head in the midst of EFL draft bidding competition. Instead, I will pay more attention to my budget. Hmm, that means…
  2. I will set up a bidding budget for each draft target.
  3. I will pay more attention to balancing SPs and RPs on my roster. In the past two years I’ve gone from having way too many RPs to not having enough – to the point where for one month I had to pay the no-lefty RP penalty.
  4. I will not draft over-hyped rookies who are destined to join the ranks of Disappointing Cheese. (as if!)
  5. I will not over-value my current Cheese. Really, I can let them go. They’re not my children.
  6. I will write more comments on Ron’s posts, because a) I enjoy reading them and I want him to know that, and b) he is comment-starved. We all need to show more appreciation for his contributions, and c) I want him to continue writing.
  7. I will not be jealous of my EFL brethren who draft pedestrian talents like Gary Carter and watch them turn into instant superstars, or of those who own mediocre pitchers like Shelby Miller and they get traded for mega-prospects. Jealousy is not good for our character.
  8. I will not add silly, dumb items to lists just so that I can get their count closer to some arbitrary decimal standard, like 10.

Do you have any New Year’s Resolutions for EFL 2017?

  • 9. I will not convince myself that, uh, pedestrian rookies (cough, Shane Greene, cough) are actually Doug Fister in disguise.

  • I like this list. Too bad it ended at 8.

As for my EFL resolutions, look at the standings from last season, just below this comment. The number that grabs my eye is “0.7”. It evokes a season-long pennant race decided by all/any/each of innumerable little things. It’s a hundred miraculous Rajai Davis home runs followed by a hundred Ben Zobrist doubles, and a hundred bottom of the tenth rallies ending because your exhausted team has no one left on the bench to bat for Michael Martinez.

That 0.7 is beautiful, isn’t it?

And this is no single rainbow. There’s a 4.4 there, too, and a 5. And a bunch of other things.

So here’s my resolution: to SEE. And to appreciate what I see.

  • I didn’t mean Gary Carter. I meant Gary Sanchez! See how old I am? (For you youngins, Gary Carter WAS a catcher, probably a little better than pedestrian, a few decades ago.)
