Dis-Encarnation (MONDAY’S POST REVEALED)

(Friends: I forgot to categorize this post as a league update Monday, so you probably never saw it.  I am working on a Wednesday morning post, which I promise to reveal before the month is over… or hopefully later this morning.  I apologize for the errors of my staff.)

The Mariners, having freed Jay Bruce to blast a flurry of homers in Philly before injuring himself, have now sent Edwin Encarnacion to the Yankees.  I don’t hope Encarnacion hurts himself, Bruce-style, but it wouldn’t break my heart like Jesus would want it to.

I don’t remember what the M’s got back for Bruce, but for the Encarnacion, they got nothing that will help them now.  I don’t expect to see their new player in the majors for two or three years… if Then.

On the other hand… the M’s won yesterday!  Somehow.

Portland:W, 12 – 15. (45 PA, .385. .467, . 769; 12.7 ip, 4 er, 2.84 ERA).
Flint Hill: W, 13 – 5. (45 PA, .368, .467, .737; 7.3 ip, 3 er, 4.91 ERA).
The Johnson boys put up batting lines as close to identical as you’ll ever see by two teams on the same day.  The Tornados had 38 AB, 14 hits,  3 doubles, a triple, 3 homers, 5 walks and 2 hbp. The Rosebuds had 39 AB, 15 hits,  2 doubles, 2 triples, 3 homers , 6 walks.  This is eeeeeeerie! The only way to tell them apart is to look at their pitching.
.
Old Detroit: L, 3 – 6. (59 PA, ..212, .288, .365;  2 ip, 0 er, 0.00 ERA).
Canberra: L, 4 – 6. (33 PA, .233, .303, .367; 2 ip, 0 er, 0.00 ERA).
The Mocks put up actual identical pitching lines… but somehow that doesn’t seem as eerie. Also, the ‘Roos used two pitchers, each going an inning, each allowing 0 hits or walks, each striking out 2. The W’s used one pitcher, who als0 allowed no hits or walks, but struck out only one.  On the other hand, the W’s and K’s also had similar batting lines, with the K’s being a little better, but the W’s being a lot more.
.
Pittsburgh: L, 5 – 6. (50 PA, .340, .380, .574; 7.3 ip, 5 er, 6.14 ERA). The freshly dis-Encarnated Mariners needed help to win their game yesterday, and the Alleghenys provided it… in the person of Lou Trivino and his 1/3 of an inning in which he surrendered 2 walks and 2 hits… but only 1 earned run.
.
Peshastin: L 7 – 13. (46 PA, .266, .435, .439; 3 ip, 7 er, 21.00 ERA).  Yikes. Cionel Perez chulked ugly Sunday. Let’s hope he didn’t intend his start to be a father’s day present.  If so, I feel sorry for poor Mr. Cionel the Elder. My new Keenes sandals, compression socks, and underwear were all GREAT presents, compared to Mr. Cionel’s.
.
Haviland: “L”, 14 -11. (49 PA, .378, .429, .756; 10 ip 9 er, 8.10 ERA.)  Look at that batting line. It’s not EXACTLY in line with the Johnson Brothers atop our standings, but there is a definite family resemblance.  Not so much on the pitching side, however.
.
Kaline: L, 8 -19. (34 PA, .455, .471, .788; 8.3 ip, 15 er, 16.20 ERA).  The Drive look like hybrid of a Johnson team and the Philosopher Pears’ team.
.
Cottage: DNP, 2 – 0. (31 PA, .333, .448, .458; 4 ip, 3 er, 6.75 ERA).  So there are, so far, three kinds of teams in the league, based on Sunday’s games: the 1.200- OPS super offenses (Portland, Flint Hill, Haviland, Kaline), the .900+ OPS all-star offenses (Pittsburgh,   Peshastin and  Cottage), and the weak offenses around .67o OPS like Old Detroit and Canberra.

.

Bellingham: “W”, 6 – 10. (38 PA, .257, .316, .514;  6 ip, 5 er, 7.50  ERA)  If you want to see what a replacement pitcher looks like, take a look at Dakota Hudson’s last outing. 6 ip, 5 er, 8 hits, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts. Also, thanks Bellingham, for destroying by 3-tiered ranking of EFL offenses.  You placed yours perfectly between the .900+ OPS stalwarts and the bottom-feeding Mock banjo hitters.
.
Brookland: W (-1), L 1; 2 – 4.  (31 PA, .231, .323, .500; 11.7 ip, 12 er, 9.26 ERA)   Brookland immediately signs up for the Bellingham class of offenses, bringing his .823 OPS to tuck in right behind Bellingham’s .830. As for pitching, the Outs’ closest comp Sunday was the Dragon staff.
.
DC: L, 3 – 11. (41 PA, .256, .268, .359; 3 ip, 5 er, 15.00 ERA).  I don’t think it’s a adviseable to play with both the Mock Banjo Hitters and the Way Over Replacement Pitching gang.
