From St. Louis. Or St. Lucia.

ST. LOUIS:  I am writing to you today from St. Louis, MO, the most baseball-loving town I’ve ever visited that I know of.  We’re here for a week visiting Melanie’s sister and her family.  A Cardinals-White Sox game is in the plans next Tuesday (June 30).

My internet-savvy son Sam has had this visit in his sights for a while.  He even rigged his Ipod to the proper local time.  He showed me last night on the plane, and sure enough, there it was: set for the local time in St. Lucia. If only.

(The picture with this post is of a beach on St. Lucia.  The book shown is about baseball.  So perhaps St. Lucia isn’t as far from St. Louis as you thought!  So cut Sam a break.)

Actually it’s cooler here than in Oregon right now. We landed on the edges of a thunderstorm at 4:47 AM local time (5:47 in St. Lucia). I got about 4.5 hours of sleep this morning. So if this post sort of peters out, it’s only because I’m petering out, too.

Old Detroit:  W 1, L (-1); 1 – (-4). .314  .345  431; 6 ip, 0 er.     Anthony DeSclafani is the hero, supplying 6 innings of crucial relief pitching (6 ip, 1 er).  But it was also a delight to see Jackie Bradley, Jr. up and going 2 for 4.

Haviland: W, 7 – 5. .300, .483, .600 (Happy Edgar Martinez Day;  0.7 ip, 2 er.   The skittish Wolverines detected the Dragons’ pounce just in time to start scurrying toward safety. But there’s nowhere to hide, and the Dragons can produce 1.083 OPS just like that! (Fortunately over only 28 plate appearances, and with 2 gidps.)
