Almost there

This should be the last day when I have to abbreviate an EFL post to grade papers.  The last day until next spring since I am on sabbatical next fall.  I’m almost there! And so, in different ways, are many EFL teams.

Cottage: L, 3 – 6. (.265, .306, .500; 6 ip, 3 er). Almost back down to .700.  Go Cheese!

.
Flint Hill:  W, 7 – 3. (.407, .484, .519; 12.3 ip, 5 er).  Almost breathing down the Cheese’s neck.  Go Tornadoes!

.
Kaline: L, 1 – 7.  (.225, .244, .450;  2.3 ip, 2 er).  Almost putting up a record worthy of your owner. Go Drive!

.
Peshastin: W, 5 – 5.  (.310, .341, .595;  5 ip, 0 er).  Almost staying in the pennant race even though your owner is 5,000 miles away. Go Pears!

.
Pittsburgh: W 0, L 2; 10 – 14. (.276, .382, .448; 15 ip, 11 er). Almost all the way back into the pennant race. Go…no, you have 6 championships. It’s ok, you can stay right where you are, Alleghenys!

.
Haviland: L, 5 – 6. (.250, .300, .389; 7 ip, 6 er).  Almost making a nice sub-race with the Alleghenys for the ex-champions championship. Go Dragons!

.
Canberra:  W, 7 – 2. (.270, .341, .514; 15.3 ip, 3 er!). Almost back to really having a .500 record. Go ‘Roos!

.
Portland:  L, 0 – 3.  (.158, .238, .263; 7 ip, 2 er). Almost far enough ahead to not have to worry about being worse than the Worsterines. Go ‘Buds!

.
Old Detroit: L, 7 – 8. (.323, .400, .484; 5 ip , 5 er). Almost had our first Edgar Martinez Day — but Iglesias had to end the W’s day with a strikeout.  Hey, it’s all right! Our rotation finished rotating yesterday, and Clayton Richard poured one right over the heart of the plate: 5 ip, 5 er.  Almost the first EFL team to have all five starters at or worse than replacement for a month!  Yay. Go W’s.
.
DC:  W, 7 – 12. (.316, .366 .526; 6 ip, 8 er.) Perhaps you saw the standings just after I first calculated them, showing the Balk at 12 – 18, just 0.4 games behind the W’s.  The problem was I had the entire Balk season stats in my update spreadsheet, rather than just May. When I fixed that, the Balk took a hard loss and fell 0.6 games in the standings.  Too bad. You were almost almost out of the cellar. Go Balk!
