Flint Hill: “W”, 2 – 6. (46 PA, .214, .283, .333; 4 ip, 2 er, 4.50 ERA) Javier Baez led the team in BA, SLG, and OPS with his 2 for 4 with a homer.  But Mike Trout led in OPB with his 1 for 3 with a walk and a HBP. The rest of the team sort of took the day off, which is totally right and proper for a team that has just taken over first place and is officially “kind of unbeatable right now” according to the Commissioner.  In fact, the Commissioner hereby informs all Tornados everywhere that they have the right to relax, and may ignore any instructions to the contrary from any Tornado managers.
.
Canberra: DNP, 7- 4. (39 PA, .219, .359, .406; 1.3 ip, 0 er, 0.00 ERA). Tim Anderson made our Featured Photo yesterday, and instantly he was all over the internet.  It wasn’t just his publicity here.  He also clobbered a homer, which he turned into a 5-base hit by flipping his bat in just the right way to produce a HBP on his very next plate appearance.
.
Pittsburgh: “W”, 5 – 5. (33 PA, .241, .324, .517; 21.3 ip, 4 er, 1.69 ERA). I used to have teams capable of producing 21.3 innings of great pitching. So did Pittsburgh.  They still do.  Which is a great thing, really, because our two Oldest Owners (I think) teamed up…
Kaline: W 2, L (-1); 6 – 0. (47 PA, .295, .340, .591; 16.7 ip, 4 er, 2.16 ERA) to shatter the Young Turk(ey)s’ hold on the top of the league, both driving past the Rosebuds with great days on both offense and defense.  Mike Zunino was the star for the Drive: 3 for 4 with two doubles. But it’s still the same old Mike. His season line: .191, .224, .319. Have you noticed? The Drive are playing a different game than the rest of us. They’ve only scored 63.4 runs in 18 games, and have only surrendered 51.6. It’s like they’ve returned to the dead ball era all by themselves.
.
Portland: L, 0 – 5. (43 PA, .179, .256, .205; 6.7 ip, 4 er, 5.40 ERA).  It looks like the Rosebuds may have been hosting the picnic attended by most of the Tornados.  I consider it a real ministry to help current and recent league-leading upstarts to relax and take life a little easier.
.
Cottage: W, 8 – 2. (28 PA, .370, .414, .630; 5.3 ip, 0 er, 0.00 ERA).  I wanna be a Cheese someday, someone who can get some shutout innings AND OPS over 1.000 as a team.  Yandy Diaz led the way with a homer and a double in 4 plate appearances.
.
Haviland: “L”, 6 – 6. (27 PA, .370, .370, .556; no pitching) I guess the Dragons were like the Cheese. I mean, they hit very well and didn’t allow any earned runs.
.
Old Detroit: W, 2 – 2. (35 PA, .219, .278, .313; 6.3 ip, 0 er, 0.00 ERA) Instead, the Woeverines are celebrating a rare dominant pitching outing even though the Woeverine hitters looked like maybe they hadn’t shown up, or at least couldn’t be differentiated from generic replacements.
.
Peshastin: “W”, 4 – 5. (49 PA, .273, .347, .455; 1 ip, 0 er, 0.00 ERA). Juan Soto homered, walked, and singled, giving the former league-leading Pears something to celebrate even as they slipped into 9th place, behind the likewise former league-leading Wolverines.
.
Brookland: “L”, 5 – 4. (24 PA, .286, .375, .476;  6 ip,, 2 er, 3.00 ERA). The Outs led the league for a while last year, so I suppose they are a “former league leading” team, too. They haven’t sniffed first place yet this year, although 145 games of this would put them back within smelling distance.
.
DC: W, 1 – (-6). (30 PA, .077, .200, .192; 15 ip, 2 er, 1.20 ERA). An excellent day for pitchers in DC,  led by Carlos Carrasco getting well on the Mariners (7 scoreless innings with 12 k’s).
.
Bellingham: “L”, 3 – 0. (33 PA, .167, .242, .333; 11.7 ip, 4 er, 3.09 ERA). Wade Miley had a fine day on the mound (6 ip, 2 er) and Jeremy Hellickson almost matched him (5.7 ip, 4 er). But the hitters didn’t quite get with the program, so the computer saddled the Cascades with a loss they hadn’t really earned.
