Present Value chart

Dave and I have been trying to tweak the present value listings on the free agent draft so you don’t have to see “consult pv” for people like Elvis Andrus who have contracts with more than 5 years to go.  You will see the benefits thereof soon — they are minor but a flaw we’ve lived with for many years.

Needlessly, as it turns out.  In making the fix, I figured out a way to make all the formulae involved FAR simpler, making it possible to extend the chart all the way out to 10 years.  This is useful, because our rules allow us to exceed a 5-year contract when the player we are bidding on has an MLB contract with more than 5 years left to run. Like Andrus.

For layout purposes we aren’t going to present more than 5 years on the free agent list. So far there are only 3 players available to us with contracts extending beyond 2019, but Scherzer and Shields may add to that number.

I am posting the  PV Chart with this message. I think. Present value 2015.csv  Oh, there it is.

Here are the minimum bid options in case you want to sign Andrus, Posey or Lester this spring.  Remember: you need to beat this bid by at least $250,000 if you don’t have pre-emption rights.  You just need to match it (to the nearest $250,000, rounding up) if you do have pre-emption, as Old Detroit does for Andrus (and Haviland does for Posey).

Player/term 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022
