I woke up in the Middle East!

After weeks of fundraising, dreaming, and trying to prepare, I am here. I opened my eyes this morning and realized, this isn’t a dream! I am in the Middle East.

When one goes to Hawaii, they know they’ll need flip-flops, sunglasses and swimwear. But what does one bring when they go to the Middle East to pastor a church? A Bible? Ibuprofen?

I am encouraged because I realized as I woke up this morning that as the sun rises so does God’s grace.

As I wake up, and sip my coffee, part of me feels scared to miss an opportunity. I came from the Pacific Northwest to the Middle East. I am here on the dime of generous and faithful believers. I am here because God called me here. This morning I have the opportunity to be used by God. This seems like all to great a task for someone like me.

However, I am learning that God likes to use the ordinary person. I’ve had the opportunity to meet some of the International Missionaries who are here long term and I am seeing a common denominator in all of them — they are nothing special. They are regular people who put their pants on every day the same as I do. Yet, they are extraordinarily special because they have answered the call of God. They have given themselves up to God’s will. With great sacrifice they have decided to move to a country half way around the world to be salt and light. And that is what makes them HEROES in my mind. They are ordinary people who know God and want others to know God so much that they are willing to leave family, friends, and comfort.

‘They are regular people who put their pants on every day the same as I do. Yet, they are extraordinarily special because they have answered the call of God.

I am encouraged because I realized as I woke up this morning that as the sun rises so does God’s grace. As the sun rises, a new opportunity to serve God rises. As the sun rises, we wipe the crust out of our eyes and God tells us, “I want to use you today.”

How fulfilling is it to be a servant of the Lord!!
