If This Post Had a Title, You’d Be Reading It Now

I’ll miss today’s end-of-the-year ice cream social at George Fox. But duty calls!  This morning I fly to Washington, D.C., for a summit meeting with the Canberra Kangaroos.

Canberra:  L,  2 – 3.  (.175, .244, .250; 0 ip, 0 er) Take your pick: Chris Davis (3 for 5 with a double) or Jason Kipnis ( 2 for 4 with a homer).
Old Detroit: W, 12 -5.  (.458, .536, .750: Happy EMD! ; 6 ip, 4 er).  Manny!  3 for 3 with a homer and a walk.
For the last four days, the ‘Roos and the W’s have been in a tense battle for supremacy in the EFL.  Some days the Kangaroos are in first place; other days the Wolverines are in second place.  The tension is excruciating.
Haviland:  W (-1), L 2;  1-9.  (.152, .188, .326;  10.3 ip, 5 er)  Jimmy Rollins: 3 for 4 with a triple and a walk. This brings Rollins’ season line to .247, .315, .361.
Pittsburgh:  W, 9 – 2.  (.344, .462, .531 — Happy EMD!; 8.3 ip, 1 er.) Rubby de la Rosa pitched 7.3 sparkling innings, striking out 6, walking 1 and giving up only 4 hits.

While the Mammals wrestle atop the standings, the Alleghenys silently advance!  They’re still in fourth place, but they are now less than 3 games out.  That’s just three quick strides and we’re back in the dark ages.   Clearly the rational thing to do is for the Mammals to bury the hatchet and focus their attention on resisting the tectonic advance of the Alleghenys.  Also, we need to do this without reawakening the Dragons. These are desperate, challenging times.  Clearly it’s crucial for our standings to have an experienced, battle-tested leader.  This is not the time for a greenhorn’s hand on the tiller.  I am traveling all the way across the continent to meet with the Captain Kangaroo and persuade him to cede the throne to the Wizened Wolverine until the Allegheny / Dragon threat is past, at which point I promise to give first place back.

Portland: W, 9 – 7.  (.361, .385, .833;  6 ip, 5 er.)  Steve Pearce! Doggone guy blasted two homers against the Wolverines’ Wade Miley, on his way to a 2 for 3 day (with a walk) — .667, .750, 2.667!
Flint Hill: L, 3 – 7.  (.276, .300 , .310; 4 ip, 6 er.) I guess I’m glad I didn’t bid further on Cesar Vargas — 4 ip, 6 er isn’t a big help.
Isn’t it heartwarming to see this sibling rivalry at the heart of our standings? The leader is in the upper division, the trailer is in the lower division. The leader is above .500, the trailer is below .500.  There is so much grist here for good theater.
Kaline:  “L”, 7 – 5. (.326, .392, .457; 0.7 ip, 0 er).
Peshastin:  W, 4 – 1.  (.243, .282, .351; 6.3 ip, 1 er)
Cottage: L, 5 – 13. (.280, .419, .440; 16.7 ip, 18er)
D.C.:  W, 7 – 5. (.320, .308, .600;  2 ip, 0 er)
They’re calling me to board.  Sorry to cut this short. My mission calls!
