League Updates

Summer is over (Tuesday Afternoon Post — never got posted)

(I wrote this post Tuesday afternoon but somehow failed to post it.)

Summer officially lasts until September 21.  But it can end a lot earlier if:

  1. Someone destroys the pennant race by being too good, or
  2. You’re a professor and your fall contract kicks in.

The Alleghenys wanted to adopt option 1:   end summer by leaving everyone else in the dust. Did they meet that goal?

.

A bunch of EFL owners had to report for the year-opening community meeting today.  I know this because Melanie dropped me off  on her way to that meeting.  I am on sabbatical this fall, so I spent the first day of the rest of my summer feeling sorry for/superior to all you GF faculty who experienced the first day of fall semester today.

.

I took a bid for replacing the septic tank at my Mom’s old place this morning. Then I spent the rest of the day in the quiet, beautiful woods northwest of Banks… collecting trash spread out over three acres and taking it to the dump. So only a little bit idyllic.

.

Now that summer’s over for half the league, lets’ see where things stand.

Flint Hill: L, 4 – 6.
The Dragons kept up with the Alleghenys — and then some — but Cottage and Flint Hill did not.  We might still have a pennant race, but it’s looking like the same old same old teams at it again.  Maybe we can get excited about what’s shaping up as a scintillating race — for third place.  (Did you ever notice that “scintillating” shares a root with “scintilla”?   So a scintillating race is one with a scintilla of significance. I guess.)
.
Portland: DNP, 0 – 0 (actually ((- 0.1) – (- 0.1)).
Kaline:  L, 7 – 10.
Peshastin:  DNP, 1 – (-1).
Old Detroit: W, 10 – 8.
Canberra: W, 6 – 3.
DC: L, 2 – 10.
My apologies to the Dragons, Cheese and Tornados. Yesterday I accused you of trading for Corey Kluber and then selling him to the Alleghenys. That was the Pears that did that. I am thinking maybe the Wolverines should run down the Pears as payback for that perfidy. And maybe the Rosebuds, too –who get a grand slam from Manny Machado and still can’t fashion a win.
