A heart-warming Christmas story, performed in 1981.

Grandma (Mildred Votaw Jessup) was a strong advocate for missions, and a popular public speaker. She was a leader in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) within the Friends (Quaker) church in California, and would travel from church to church to promote missions and to raise money.

During the Christmas season she would often be asked to tell the story of “The Pink Angel.” I don’t know if she wrote the original story or adapted it from some other source, but she made it her own, and it was popular.

I never had the chance to attend a meeting where Grandma did “The Pink Angel,” and I don’t recall her ever performing it for our family. But Walter’s son Merrill invited the two of them over to Merrill’s house for a Christmas party one year, and asked her to do it for the Jessup clan. Both Merrill’s and Al’s families were present. Jon Jessup (Walter’s grandson) did the video.

Grandma was 78 years old when she did this reading, and I think she did a great job.
