Doree went to Pomona High School, graduating in 1949. In her junior year she was elected to head up the Rally Committee – a group of students who had responsibility for school rally events. As a senior, she was elected vice-president of the student body. When she went on to Mt. San Antonio College (a.k.a. Mt. SAC) after graduating from high school, she was again chosen as Rally Committee chair.
Mom told us that her mother (Mary Martin) created all of her campaign posters and other printed materials, and that this was a key element in her being elected. But these articles talk about Mom as a young person, and they tell us that she was capable and popular – something we already knew. (Click on articles to enlarge them for reading.)
This is a nice introduction to Doree as the head of the Rally Committee. It also talks about a boyfriend that she had back in high school.
This photo was in Doree’s high school yearbook. She is shown in the front, near the center.
In this photo Doree is seated in the center of the front row, as the student body vice president. Next to her is Jean Perrin, Doree’s close friend who later served as one of her bridesmaids.
This article and photo were printed at the beginning of the school year in Doree’s senior year, to introduce the incoming student officers. Doree’s friend Jean Perrin served with her on the student council.
This article appeared in 1950, when Doree was Rally Head at Mt. SAC.
Doree and her escort won the prize for “cutest” in this costume contest.
