Today’s BP features an article by Aaron Gleeman that makes MLB owners look pretty stupid for offering a lot of huge contracts to ballplayers who haven’t provided much return on investment. Here are some samples:
David Price | 7 years | $217 million | 4.34 ERA |
Zach Greinke | 6 years | $207 million | 3.67 ERA, 6 wks on DL |
Jason Heyward | 8 years | $184 million | .227/.310/.317 |
Justin Upton | 6 years | $133 million | .234/.290/.386 |
Chris Davis | 7 years | $161 million | .217/.331/.434 |
Jordan Zimmerman | 5 years | $110 million | 4.44 ERA (on DL twice) |
The list goes on, but you get the idea: MLB owners are idiots. EFL owners are surely much smarter, as Ron’s standings and statistics have frequently demonstrated for us.
But even savvy EFL owners can make similar mistakes. I seem to remember a Joe Mauer boondoggle by somebody. I myself offered a bucket-full o’ cash to Pablo Sandoval, which will finally be paid off after this year. But those were historic gaffes. Surely we know better by now, right?
Just checking my Cheese roster…
How did that Heston guy get on there? And who offered him $4M per for three? I need better staff in Cottage headquarters. Maybe the Dodgers could loan me one of their 7 GMs.
Any of the rest of you have contracts you’d retract, if you could? C’mon, tell us. Confession is good for the soul.

Well, let’s see. So far TYSON ROSS has pitched exactly one time for his $9 million in 2016. Fortunately for him, he will get $9m more each of the next five years even if he never pitches again. Ugh.
Ooooh. Tyson Ross — sorry about that, Phil.
I am paying Kyle Schwarber $11,500,000 for his four hitless at-bats this year… but I have a chance to recover my value over the next four years of his rookie status, so maybe this doesn’t really qualify for Dave’s list.
