League Updates

Getting Into the Blender

Quick Bits:

  1.  The Rosebuds maintained their 1.9 game lead — or to put it from a different perspective, the Wolverines clung to their 1.9-game deficit, keeping themselves from falling 2 games behind.  If you look at the MLB standings below, you’ll see Portland is on the verge of being rounded up to 99 – 53, whereas Old Detroit is only a little above 96 – 55.
  2.  Canberra took firmer hold of 3rd place, leaving the Outs now 0.7 games behind.  Meantime the outs have fallen to within 1.4 games 0f the Alleghenys. Drama in the second tier of the league has not abated!
  3.  Similar dramatics may be developing in the race for 8th place. Cottage, Kaline and Peshastin are still contesting the underwater championship of the EFL .  Yesterday Kaline cut 0.1 off the Cheese’s lead in the race, but Peshastin did even better, slicing its deficit to the Drive from 1.5 to 0.7 games.  The Cheese-Pear span —  historically the scene of many major battles in the EFL — shrank yesterday from 2.3 games to 1.7.  Cheese and Pears colliding on top of the Drive? Sounds like a Blender to me.
  4.  Three teams had clear wins yesterday, six clear losses, all of them ranging from close to extremely close.  As a whole it seems the league lost a game or two to .500.  But we are still about 94 games over .500.  If we finish more than 90 games over .500 we will have a mandatory expansion draft, even if we don’t get any new teams.

  • I think I’ve figured it out wrong. The rule is if we average 90 wins, not if we get 9 wins over .500 as a league. To average 90 wins, our league will have to have an average winning percentage of .556. Right now we’re only averaging about .529. So we’re probably NOT going to have a mandatory expansion draft.

So, Dave, it’s ok to let your team get back over .500, just so long as we don’t all try a last-minute surge of similar magnitude.
