Opening Day Standings

I know Day 2 of the 2018 is almost over.  But the first standings of the season traditionally require some cleaning up of months of cobwebs in our system. We actually got them worked out faster than last year.  So, without further ado, here are the official EFL standings after Opening Day:

Team Wins Losses Pct. GB RS RA
Brookland Outs 1 0 0.986 8.3 1
D.C. Balk 1 0 0.968 10.2 1.8
Canberra Kangaroos 1 0 0.813 0.2 9.9 4.7
Kaline Drive 1 0 0.744 0.2 2.9 1.7
Haviland Dragons 1 0 0.5 0.5 5.8 5.8
Flint Hill Tornadoes 0 1 0.434 0.6 4.1 4.6
Old Detroit Wolverines 0 1 0.224 0.8 2.3 4.2
Portland Rosebuds 0 1 0.221 0.8 2.1 3.9
Peshastin Pears 0 1 0.107 0.9 2.9 8.5
Cottage Cheese 0 1 0.057 0.9 1.4 5.6
Pittsburgh Alleghenys 0 1 0.049 0.9 2.2 9.5

Of course these stats come with the usual beginning-of-the-month caveats about how skewed they are until we get everyone’s rotation rotated, etc.

Other notes:

  1. We’ve had expansion teams in first place after Opening Day before. I kind of think of them as little gifts from a merciful God and don’t get to worried about the whippersnappers having a little fun before things get serious.  But I am a little uneasy in this case because I already know what Gregory Polanco did Friday…
  2. I don’t know that we’ve ever had an Opening Day when the top three teams in draft order start as the top three teams in the standings, in exact reverse draft order.  Unfortunately, the team with the fourth pick — Old Detroit — couldn’t keep it up.
  3. The official standings on our webpage show Haviland at 1 – 1.  That’s impossible. So I rounded the Haviland record up to 1 – 0.  It’s really almost exactly 0.5-0.5.

I apologize for being so terse, but it is well after midnight here in D.C., and I am fading fast. I’ll have more to say about the standings after Friday’s games, assuming BP updates the stats before the day gets too old.
