This update is coming to you a little late in the day, but there nothing too exciting to report…so I don’t feel too bad for not being able to get this out until now. If only we could have some drama!!

Old Detroit: DNP, (-1)-(-1); 28PA, 7.3IP
AVG: 0.240 OBP: 0.321 SLG: 0.480 OPS: 0.801
ERA: 3.70 WHIP: 1.233
You know your offense has been humming along at a nice pace when a daily OPS over .800 means you lose one run scored. And that is what the Wolverines did. Marcus Stroman tossed a nice game, going 6.3 innings and giving up only one run. Nate Pearson accidentally allowed 2 runs in 1 inning, but it was a day off, and nothing much can penetrate the outer walls of the Old Detroit fortress these days. Luis Garcia had two hits, a double and a home run, to lead the offense on its “down” day.

Flint Hill: DNP, 1-0; 38PA, 4.3IP
AVG: 0.303 OBP: 0.395 SLG: 0.455 OPS: 0.849
ERA: 6.28 WHIP: 1.163
The good news is that 6.28 ERA is better than the 7.50 ERA it replaced. The bad news is it is still bad! The recently activated Tanner Scott did most of the damage, allowing 2 runs in 1 inning. The two Blue Jay hitters led the Tornado offense, with Bichette and Hernandez combining to go 6 for 9 with a double and home run.

DC: W, 8-7; 34PA, 1IP
AVG: 0.259 OBP: 0.382 SLG: 0.704 OPS: 1.086
ERA: 0.00 WHIP: 1.000
The Balk are doing surprisingly well considering they are second this month in replacement innings and first in replacement plate appearances. Yesterday’s win was powered by powerful and patient hitting. For patience, the team earned 6 walks – 3 of them belonging to Myles Straw (!). For power, three home runs were hit, one each for Bryce Harper, Ryan McMahon and Sam Hilliard – all of them playing in the same MLB game!

Peshastin: DNP, (-2)-(-3); 19PA, 5IP
AVG: 0.188 OBP: 0.316 SLG: 0.375 OPS: 0.691
ERA: 3.60 WHIP: 1.000
Like the Balk just above them, the Pears are doing a lot with a little. They are first in replacement innings and second in replacement plate appearances. But they continue to move along at a good clip. Yesterday wasn’t as good, but it was an off day, so it didn’t matter much. Juan Soto had two walks and one home run. Jazz Chisholm hit a game-winning home run. And Huascar Ynoa tossed a pretty good game, giving up 2 runs in just over 5 innings.

Kaline: W(1), L(-1), 1-0; 8PA, 13.3IP
AVG: 0.500 OBP: 0.625 SLG: 0.500 OPS: 1.125
ERA: 2.71 WHIP: 1.053
All the goodness in yesterday’s hitting came from one guy – Aaron Judge. He went 3 for 4, all of the hits singles, naturally (I wonder how few times Judge has had a multiple hit game but had zero extra base hits – probably not many). The pitching was really good, with Nestor Cortes going 6 innings and giving up 2 runs, and John Means going 7 innings to give up his 2 runs.

Cottage: DNP, 0-(-4); 13PA, 10IP
AVG: 0.273 OBP: 0.385 SLG: 0.364 OPS: 0.748
ERA: 1.80 WHIP: 1.100
It’s quite surprising that knocking 4 runs off their runs allowed total didn’t earn the Cheese a database win on their off day, but I imagine they’ll reap the benefits later down the road. Sean Manaea, recently reunited with the Cheese, threw 7 innings giving up one run. Tony Gonsolin added in 3 innings of his own, also allowing only one run. Trea Turner did a lot, going 2 for 4 with a double, but it wasn’t enough to earn a win for the Dodgers nor the Cheese – a double loss for Dave.

Canberra: “L,” 7-5; 20PA, 1IP
AVG: 0.222 OBP: 0.300 SLG: 0.611 OPS: 0.911
ERA: 0.00 WHIP: 0.000
This morning there was an article on MLB.com about the possibility of Vlad Jr. winning the Triple Crown. It would take a lot, but yesterday he proved, once again, he has some of what it takes, going 1 for 5 with the one hit being a home run. But he’ll need more hits, I think. Javy Baez, who was suddenly awoken from a season-long slumber, seemed more like Triple Crown threat – going 2 for 3 with a double, home run, and 2 stolen bases.

Haviland: W(1), L(-1), (-4)-(-9); 18PA, 9.7IP
AVG: 0.118 OBP: 0.167 SLG: 0.118 OPS: 0.284
ERA: 1.86 WHIP: 0.722
The Dragons were, as is natural, looking to shed some things – not skin this time, but runs. Both Runs Scored AND Runs Allowed. It turned into a two game swing in the right direction, unless the Dragons are wanting a better draft pick in which case it is the wrong direction. Only one pitcher of three allowed any runs, and he pitched the most innings – Jesus Luzardo, giving up two runs over 5.7 innings pitched. On the flip side, the team only got two hits, both singles, which is why they also shed some runs scored.

Pittsburgh: “L,” 3-3; 23PA, 7.4IP
AVG: 0.182 OBP: 0.217 SLG: 0.227 OPS: 0.445
ERA: 2.43 WHIP: 1.216
Similarly to the Dragons, though not as dramatic, the Alleghenys struggled at the plate while performing well from the mound. The newest long-term member of the team, Jose Berrios, pitched 6.7 innings giving up 2 runs. At the plate, the team collected 4 hits in 23 plate appearances – two of them from Luis Robert. Mark is hoping he’ll have Robert for an entire season next year. I am not.

Bellingham: L, 3-5; 23PA, 1.7IP
AVG: 0.095 OBP: 0.174 SLG: 0.095 OPS: 0.269
ERA: 5.29 WHIP: 1.176
Yesterday was a rough day at the plate for Cascade hitters. They did get as many walks as hits, which is often a good thing. But that number was 2, which is difficult to do anything with. But, look! They scored 3 runs with those numbers!!

Portland: DNP, (-1)-0; 23PA, no pitching
AVG: 0.182 OBP: 0.217 SLG: 0.500 OPS: 0.717
A .717 OPS with a batting average of .182 means they barely hit the ball, but when they did, the Rosebuds mashed. They had 4 total hits – one double by Dylan Carlson and two home runs, one each from Tyler O’Neill and Gary Sanchez. Also, I am sure Mark would like me to use this space to advertise his lovely home, now for sale. It’s also the picture connected to the post.
