League Updates

Repentance, and a modest-ill-advised-not-serious-but-wouldn’t-it-be-nice idea

Look at this morning’s standings:

Here, briefly, are some things that pop out to me:

  1. Canberra announced in a private message to me that this week would be the start of the Kangaroo Revival.  And so it seems!  The ‘Roos have climbed from 10th to 8th place in two games.
  2. They are following in the Drive’s footsteps, who have risen from last place to 5th place in 10 days.
  3. The Wolverines are attempting their own mini-version, having regained 3rd place and knocking on the door to 2nd.

But here’s a big thing looming over all the good news:  our league’s progress toward parity with MLB teams has stalled.  Maybe it’s only a pause, but what if it’s not?

I’m worried that my pet project, the Competitive Balance Expansion Draft, was a mistake.

I don’t suppose we could just undo it now, could we?  You know, to correct my mistake in insisting on it?

I admit part of the reason for my remorse is JP Crawford’s .340, .460, .560 batting line. Especially compared to Carlos Correa’s .198, .288, .288.  The Twins are giving Correa the day off today; if I were a wiser man, I’d have Crawford there ready to step in.

I don’t think anyone else has as much to regret about the CBED — if I am overlooking someone else’s pain, please mention it in the comments.  I know you are all compassionate, kind people, and would rejoice to see Crawford back where he belongs on the Wolverine roster.

But even though I know this will sadden you all, I don’t think there is a fair and legal way to make it happen.
