EFL Standings Update — and league logistics

Two things in this quick update: Standings, and a logistical point about the league.

First, standings as of this morning:

Notes:

  1.  Canberra surged over the first two days of Week 8 with  BIG offense (70 PA, .966 OPS, 9.5 rc/g), adequate pitching (10 innings + 4 replacement innings, totalling a 4.93ERA), and a miserable rs/ra ratio by their San Diego MLB opponents (1 run scored, 4 runs allowed). The surge is thus vulnerable to better play by the Padres. But for the moment it puts Canberra in 5th place, which they “deserve” according to their raw winning percentage.
  2. Peshastin and Portland are also benefitting from extremely low rs/ra ratios by their MLB opponents. Peshastin is facing the Nationals, who have been outscored 5 – 19 so far.  Portland is playing the White Sox, who have the worst ratio in MLB in Week 8: 3 – 16.
  3. Several teams are crippled in the early going this week by their opponents’ extremely favorable rs/ra ratios:   Salem is playing against the Red Sox, who’ve outscored the White Sox 16 -3 so far.  The Wolverines’ opposition, the Cubs, have stomped their opponents 18 – 8.  And even the Balk are in a hole thanks to the Mets’ 25 – 16 score so far.

Not to worry. One of the ways the universe bends toward justice is it’s inexorable tendency to regress toward the mean.

NOW, a note on logistics.

My advice to you is to keep close track of four spreadsheets:

  1. The Data Entry version of your team, where I keep the current weeks’ stats.
  2. The Allocation version of your team (currently called May EFL 2022 Yourteam v2) to use in making allocations.
  3. The Weekly Results webpage for standings and team performance.
  4. The 2022 EFL Schedule, to see who your opposition will be up through the All-Star break.

You also should have a link to all your archived weekly data entry sheets, named “Archive EFL 2022 YourTeam v2 wkX”. (Some of these sheets lack the week designation, which I realize will be confusing, so I will work harder to make sure they all have that little tag.)

If you consult the Data Entry version you can see how your players are doing the current week.  Use that info when you do allocations in the Allocation version.  All the allocation sheets currently have out-of-date state — do not rely on them. When I get a chance I’ll load year-to-date numbers there.  I don’t think I’ll get that chance today. It looks pretty full, clear into the evening.

As always, alert me if you spot something that seems wrong or indecipherable. I’ll try to fix it.
