Neither this photo nor the one at the top of the page is dated, but it’s safe to guess that both of them come from Doree’s high school and/or college years.
Ping-pong was a favorite activity at the Balboa house. In this clip Doree demonstrates her skills.
As we’ve seen here, Doree was a popular girl in high school, and she had lots of friends. When her family began to spend vacation weeks in Balboa, she loved being there, and invited lots of her friends to join her. The family archives hold quite a few film clips that were taken back in those days, and it’s obvious that the young people had a lot of fun together.
This clip features Doree and many of her girlfriends playing on the beach. The boys are there too!
Doree shows us some of the daily living tasks that were done at the Balboa house – including painting the dog’s toenails!
This clip includes film from visits to Balboa with Doree and her friends, in both 1948 and 1949. They had some fun acting out scenes for the camera.
This very short clip shows Doree heading out on a date with a young man.
Doree had a little sailboat at Balboa, and she loved taking her friends out sailing on the bay.
This photo is captioned “A couple of admirers.”
This photo was taken on the same occasion as the film at left was shot.
