Bert poses with his wife Frankie just before leaving for Korea in 1956.
Bert’s death occurred in November, 1957. The above three letters were received by his parents, Herb & Mary, to confirm the fact. The story of what happened is told in the first letter. All three letters speak positively of Bert’s character.
The Working Years, by Dick Votaw

Soon after Sue was born, we got word that Bert, Doree’s brother, had been killed in Korea while he was there as part of the occupational forces. He was a dentist, and one night while sleeping was awakened by an intruder who was there to rob him and he tried unsuccessfully to resist. This was a very, very sad time in all our lives as he would have been out of the Army soon to take over his Dad’s dental practice.
Here’s Bert in his Korean dental practice, with a local assistant.
Bert, seen down front with two little ones in this photo, provided support to this Korean orphanage while he was in country.
Bert provides dental service to patients in his Korean dental office.
This is the order for the memorial service held for Bert Martin in Korea following his death.
