Peshastin: W, 0 – (-3). (.167, .271, .238;  25.3 ip, 4 er) Led by Brandon Finnegan and Jameson Taillon, who each completed 7 scoreless innings, five Pear hurlers combined for 19.7 shutout innings.  Danny Salazar added 5.7 more innings at the cost of 4 runs. So even though the Pears hit like dead Wolverines, they added a win .

Haviland: W, 4 – 1. (.261, .320, .391; 4.3 ip, 1 er).  The Dragons ran 5 pitchers out to the mound to cover those 4.3 innings.  Not a bad result.  They ran 6 hitters out there and got 4 runs out of them, despite modest batting totals.  Again, not bad.  Who needs WAR when you can squeeze blood out of turnips?

Cottage: DNP, 0 – (-1) (.306, .324, .417;  18.7 ip, 4 er).  Wow!  Those are some great numbers, especially on the pitching side.  Awfully modest results., though. I wonder why.

Flint Hill: L, 4 – 8. (.306, .324, .417;  18.7 ip, 7 er).  Dan Straily strayed yesterday, gaily enabling foes to frolic on the base paths for 5 earned runs in 3.3 innings.  Cahill and Kneble knuckled down knicely to knail the barn door shut. Alas, it was too late: the Tornadoes tumbled.

Canberra:  L, 5 – 5. (.296, .367, .630;  7 ip, 4 er.)  Look at that hitting! Here’s a team that knows how to play.  Chris Davis, Adam Eaton, Jonathan Villar and that man Mark Reynolds all checked in with OPSes over 1.000. Dan Altavilla and Shawn Armstrong combined for a scoreless inning with negative FIPS!  But then Taijuan Walker gave it all back with 4 er in 6 innings pitched.

Pittsburgh:  W (-1), L 1; (-2) – 0. (.074, .107, .074; 1.3 ip, 0 er).  Ouch. At least that batting line is symmetrical.  Two hits in 27 trips to the plate, plus a walk. Yechh.  If it weren’t for EWIE Brandon Drury, that would have been 1 hit in 23 at bats.

Old Detroit: “W”, 3 – 4. (.212, .257, .242;  10.3 ip, 4 er).  Rich Hill looked bad (5.53 FIP) came out of it well (5 ip, 1 er).  “Potential ace” Matt Moore pitched well (3.13 FIP) but coughed up the runs (3 er in 5.3 ip).   Jose Iglesias and Jurickson Profar are still 0 for the season.

Portland: W, 4 – 1. (.207, .281, .414;  7 ip, 0 er).  A simple, well-rounded, competent performance — Sale’s 7 shutout innings and big days from Corey Dickerson ( 2 for 4 with a homer) and Yasiel Puig (2 for 3 with a homer) — and there you go. You  have a win.  And, if you keep it up, a ticket out of the lower division.

DC:  L,  0 – 5. (.237, .293, .289;  5.7 ip, 10 er). Sam Dyson is doing more damage to his team, single-handedly, than anyone I’ve ever seen before.  Tuesday he struggled to get two outs while allowing 3 earned runs for a 40.50 ERA.  Wednesday he did worse: 1/3 of an inning, 5 earned runs: a daily ERA of 135.00.  His season ERA is 72.00.   Jharel Cotton didn’t help any  — but his 4.3 ip, 5 er performance helped lower the team’s daily ERA all the way to 15.88.

Kaline:  “L”, 2 – (-1). (.170, .264, .255; 8.3 ip, 0 er).  The Drive is (almost) all the way back!  They outscored their foes with some stellar pitching from Paxton, Rzepczynski, and Joe Kelly.  They got impressive hitting performances from sluggers Chris Owings and Orlando Arcia. They had some debts to pay to the record demons before they could claim a win, but those debts are almost paid off.  Just think what they’ll do when they get some offense from a position other than shortstop!
