TEAM BLOGS: The OD OD: The W’s Did Better At the Draft Than You thought

Editor’s Note:  I am getting so tired of the daily updates having so much news about one franchise.  Unless the author makes a superhuman effort, the update always seems to be dominated by one team’s news: whining about how someone on that one team stinks, or gloating about insignificant little accomplishments made by that one team.

Enough is enough. Things are changing around here. I’ve decided to start a category of posts called “Team Blogs”.  Each EFL owner is encouraged to post in this category little comments (or big ones, depending) about his own team.  Brag here when your team manages an Edgar Martinez Day.  Moan here when you realize 80% of your starting pitchers are on the DL.  Complain here about fate, or the unreasoning recalcitrance of people who won’t trade you Manny Machado for that guy you were thinking of DFAing.

You can do that because your blog is aimed, not at the league in general, but at your own fan base.  (For those of us who are our own fan base, it will be like a personal journal.) Others can read what you write, of course, but no one will be obligated to, because there won’t be any announcements of general league interest under the Team Blogs category. (Those go under League Updates, Logistical Notes, Rules, or Mr. EFL Answer Man.)

I hope this blog feature will help the quieter owners find their voices.  If you want to use it, please follow the format in the title for this entry: TEAM BLOGS:  (Your Blog’s Title: Your Post’s Title).  And check the “Team Blogs” category before you post.  pay no attention to what he wrote there. Instead, just inform the EFL IT department when you want to create your blog, and their minion will set you up. (IT dept. note)

….

The Wolverines came away from our June 3 Manager’s Meeting with only two seemingly modest acquisitions:  Michael Taylor and Wade LeBlanc. But while I was trying to engineer allocations this morning I noticed somethings:

OPS May 1 – June 4:

Steve Pearce (32 PAs, DL):   1.092

Nick Ahmed (84 PA):               .877

Michael Taylor (117 PA):         .875

Gregory Polanco (73 PA);        .820

Kolten Wong (78 PA):              .766

Willson Conteras (92 PA):       .762

Christian Yelich (127 PA):       .760

TEAM                                          .756

            Manny Machado (137 PA):      .715

            Josh Bell (131 PA):                    .707

            Austin Hedges  (95 PA):          .701

            Jose Iglesias (109 PA):             .669

Dan Vogelbach (3 PA, AAA):   .667

            Kyle Schwarber (104 PA):        .610

Mallex Smith (1 PA,  AAA):      .000

                   Jurickson Profar (AAA):           .000

Starling Marte (Penance):        .000

Observations:

  1.  Newly-acquired Michael Taylor, erstwhile fourth OF for the Nationals, is my most productive hitter (adjusting for playing time).
  2.  Kyle Schwarber and Dan Vogelbach really are twins! But in the other order.
  3.  Nick Ahmed is my new starting shortstop. That hitting and that 9.9 defense!

Similarly for pitching:

ERA: May 1 – June 4:

Alex Wood  (28.3 IP)  (DL)            1.27

Shane Greene (17.7 IP)                   1.53

Wade LeBlanc (20.3 IP)                 1.77

TEAM     (216.7 IP)                          4.20

Clayton Richard (38.7 IP)              4.42

Rich Hill (18.0 IP)                           4.50

David Paulino (4.0 IP)                    4.50

Alex Meyer   (25.7 ip)                       4.91

Corey Kluber (9.0 ip)                       5.00

Matt Moore (39.0 IP)                       5.54

Robert Whalen (5.3 ip) (AAA)       8.44

Francisco Liriano (10.7 ip)            10.13

Presently on the DL, in order of projected return:  Alex Wood (about 1 more week), Nate Jones (mid/late June), Tyler Skaggs (late June),  Madison Bumgarner (mid/late July), Anthony DeSclafani (July), Andrew Heaney (2018),

Observations:

  1.  Newly-acquired LeBlanc is my second best active pitcher.  Third best when Wood gets back. And look at all those innings LeBlanc puts in!
  2.  It’s a LONG drop from LeBlanc to #4: Clayton “Mirage” Richard.
  3.  Thank God and the Pears for Alex Wood!  I saw that the pitcher who went to the Pears in that deal, Trevor Williams, had a good outing this weekend (7 ip, 1 er), and Jackie Bradley is heating up, so maybe the deal will end up being even.
  4. I hate dirt bikes.
  5.  I don’t know which is worse: dirt bikes, or whatever is ailing Kyle Schwarber (and to a lesser degree, Manny Machado).
