Here We Go Again…

It’s happening again, just as it does every year in Cottage. Awesome April, followed by DisMay. Remember last year? The Cheese were way out in front, and then the injuries came, with no way to replace the lost players. We were sunk, and never really recovered.

This year, if we are once again hit by major injuries, we have the unfortunately-named VotawmaCare rule, which would be great (since I helped think it up) if it were available to the Cheese. But it isn’t. There has to be money in the bank account to draft those replacements, and we have none.

But so far Cottage has been injured only in the starting pitcher area, where we foolishly failed to draft enough players. We lost two starters (Severino and Duffy) who were going to go on opening day for their teams, but now won’t pitch until May at the earliest. So we scrambled, gave away some future all-star outfielders, and came up with one more starter, but we’re still not even close to meeting the need.

And still Cottage is in first place! It’s because of the hitting. Moncada has become what we all thought he would when the Tornadoes drafted him. Yandy Diaz has made the Indians look stupid for trading him and made the Head Cheese look wise for drafting him last year. Besides them, we have four other guys OPSing over 1.000. Think it’ll last?

I hope so. And next month should be even better. Shohei Ohtani will be back in the lineup. Duffy and Sevy should return, and maybe even pitch well. Corey Seager will figure it out.

Maybe we can miss DisMay this year.
