League Updates

Let the Game Begin!

Tonight marks the return of games, well, the return of game. Why only one game tonight, you ask? A quick search reveals that on August 22nd, 2018, Major League Baseball touted it as one of their scheduling features for the 2019 season. But they didn’t provide a reason, and if you ask me it is not a feature. It basically gives us 4 whole days without any meaningful baseball in the middle of the summer. That is NOT a feature. It’s a travesty. But tomorrow morning we will once again return to updates, though only Haviland and Kaline will play a game – the rest of us will wait, like the other 28 MLB teams, for our triumphal return on Friday.

In case any of you missed it, Brookland’s Shane Bieber was named the MVP of the All Star game. What did he do? 1 IP with 3 Ks. In a game that didn’t feature a standout performance, they went with the hometown player who, by all accounts, had an excellent appearance, striking out two EFL players – Willson Contreras and Ronald Acuña – and also Ketel Marte.

That means an EFL player won the HR Derby – Pete Alonso (Alleghanys) – and another was the All Star game MVP. If there isn’t any meaningful baseball, at least our players are taking advantage of their opportunity to show the world the EFL is a force with which to be reckoned!
