League Updates Mr. EFL Answer Man

No Easy Answer to Neuse Question

Dear Mr. EFL Answer Man:

Neuse has played 1B this year. Can he please get a 1b rating?

— Noisy Neuse Owner

Dear Noisy:

He CAN get a 1b rating. Our rules, from the before times (before this crazy head-to-head, week-by-week format) called for defense changes to be handled monthly. If a guy played first base for the first time on the first day of the month, we had to wait until the first day of the next month to first take advantage of his new rating.

We have less need to wait to the first of the month now.  We haven’t exploited all the flexibility the current format offers for two reasons:

  1. New wrinkles usually cost the commissioner time.  He is carrying right now about what he can carry. We didn’t want to break the commissioner, so we took a gradual approach (eg., limiting reallocation moves to 5 each week). The Commish, bless his heart, has made a couple of goofs even so, indicating we may not want to take the wrappers completely off.
  2. The league was founded for several reasons, one being the old league died because it made too many demands on league members. So we deliberately decided to steer well away from a daily management league.  Monthly (or weekly) rhythms in roster moves is one of the ways we do that steering.

So, for now, the Commissioner will not add a new defensive rating until we transition from one month to the next — which we are scheduled to do after this week ends on Saturday!! (Yikes!  We already need another league meeting!) Owners can discuss whether to change the rule at our next meeting if anyone wants to.
